Staten Island Modern provides an opportunity for emerging choreographers to come together and showcase their work as they may not have the time or resources to produce a full event on their own. The concept for Staten Island Modern was established in response to the rising costs of theater rentals which puts a strain on artists who would love to present their work at a larger venue on Staten Island.

Staten Island Modern 2011 is made possible (in part) by a DCA Art Fund Grant awarded to Cecilia Flores from the  Council on the Arts & Humanities for Staten Island, with public funding from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.

In 2009 I presented the very first Staten Island Modern dance showcase. This family event showcased 10 different dance works from 10 choreographers in collaboration with other artists and art forms. A total of 15 artists collaborated with the focus on dance and movement at the beautiful grounds of the Alice Austen House Museum.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the arts.
